Currently priced at $449 US, this lens is pretty nice chunk of change

This New Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN lens is Not designed for Full Frame Coverage just to be clear. However, it can be used in crop factor mode on the full frame e-mount cameras. Additionally, if you’re filming is Super 35mm mode on the full frame E-mount cameras like the A7rII, this lens will be a very good fast option for your low light wide angle needs. Super 35mm Mode is basically shooting in crop factor mode, so the coverage will be the same as the A6500 when filming.

The Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN lens is a killer addition to the ever growing E-Mount lens arsenal. Fast f/1.4 glass and high quality build, make the price point of $449 US, on the higher end for the Sigma’s E-Mount Lenses as a whole. Based on the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Lens Performance, this lens should prove to be excellent for the money. Time will tell…

This lens is compatible with the fast hybrid AF system found in they latest e-mount cameras, and also supports facial recognition. I’m guessing Eye-AF might not work since it was not mentioned on Sigma’s site, but facial was mentioned.

Fast f/1.4 glass will produce awesome out of focus areas when applicable, and allow for some serious low light shooting at much lower ISO levels. A “Super Multi-Layer Coating” has been applied to select pieces of glass within the total 16 elements, and this will insure punchy colors and contrast even in harsh lighting conditions.

The Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN lens also features a stepping AF motor for fast, smooth, and quiet focusing. Basically it should be great for both photography and video!
Lastly, this lens is weather-sealed per Sigma, which really makes it perfect for those outdoors in harsh conditions.

This lens will be particularly good for wide angle work such as Astrophotography, Landscapes, Wide-angle Portraits, Wide angle Wedding or Street Photography Shooting, and architecture photography.
