I hope you all had a great weekend, and check out this Article I put together showing off the Sony RX100 and more!! I move it around and hold it in my hands so you get a good sense of scale etc.. I also show you the battery compartment, battery, and put a SD memory card in the camera.
Next I turn the Sony RX100 On and film it from the back so you can see the LCD screen. I then do some extensive AF testing using the wide area mode first, then switch to flexible spot for more detailed testing zoomed in and out. I used my 4×6 test charts for focal points and they were ~2 and ~4 feet from the camera for reference, and the lighting was poor!! ISO was at 3200 for some of this testing and filming!! I also tested the Clear Image Zoom feature.

Sony Nex-F3
I filmed this HD video using the Sony Nex-F3 with the Sony ECM-SST1 Mic and the New Sony 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Lens!! I usually use my Canon 5D Mark II, but the Sony Nex-F3 is so much easier to use with a great output quality. The screen flipping up really makes the difference for me when it comes to filming stuff for reviews etc.. Using AF while recording video works really well when you can use the LCD screen for reference. You will see the 18-200mm lens focusing throughout this video, so take note of how quite it is and also keep in mind I was very close to the minimum focus distance.
Check out the Nex-F3 with the New Sony 18-200mm lens mounted @ 200mm:
Here’s the Sony ECM-SST1 Compact Stereo Microphone I was using on the Sony Nex-F3 for the recording your about to watch below 😉
HD Video Showing off the Sony RX100
Be sure to select the HD video options for the best viewing experience!! 1080 HD is available on this video and it looks awesome fullscreen, although make take a minute to download/ buffer.
Closing Remarks
As you can see from this video demonstration the RX100 performs very well in pretty poor light with high contrast focus points. It’s also important to note that faces are recognized by the camera and that helps tremendously with the AF in very low light. I had no problems with the focus in my test however, but in some cases the focus will hunt like any camera. If this happens, simple re-compose your scene and try to add some contrast to help the cameras AF system work the fastest for you!!
I cannot get enough of the RX100’s Illustration mode, as you now! It’s so fun and it shocks me every time how good it looks. Check out this Lilly I took Saturday and out good friends dog 😉
