Sony announces some new “high performance” prime lenses for the full frame e-mount lineup and they all have the G badge!
So first we have the FE 24mm f/2.8 G Lens, fallowed by the FE 40mm f/2.5 G lens, and lastly the FE 50mm f/2.5 G Lens. All three lenses are near identical on the exterior, compact, light weight, weather resistant, and a reasonable $598 US price point. Build quality looks to be excellent and these lenses also feature a linear response manual focus, which is awesome for video and just easier to use in my opinion.
I added these lenses to my Sony E-Mount Lens Guide you can see Here >>
Are these lenses for you?
That is an excellent question and really depends on how much depth of field play you want with your full frame prime lenses. For example if you are shooting at f/2.8 and above all the time, then theses lenses look like fantastic options on paper. The ultra compact lightweight design is super attractive to hikers, bikers, landscape hunters, and those on the move for extended periods. However, if you are in low light conditions and/ or want maximum depth of field play, you would want a faster aperture lens ideally.
