Sony E-Mount Lens Guide Here >>

Life Updates, Sony A5100, and Some Sony A7s Sample Photos!

Hi everybody and welcome to Sonyalphalab! Have not been around much lately, but we just had a new member of the family born!! A baby boy to be specific and his name is Jase Peter Hermann, Born – 08/12/14 – 7lbs 8.5oz 🙂

So now the family consists Michele and I, Layla, who just turned 4 years old, Jase who is currently 1 week old, and Chubs the dog, who is around 6 years 🙂 More on the family below…

We also have the re-lease of the New Sony Alpha A5100 which is basically the A5000 w/ the A6000 sensor and touchscreen added. It’s extremely light weight and high quality with the 24mp sensor, so Quadcopter users looking to upgrade their HD Cameras should consider this if they demand really high quality. The older 5 series nex cameras are also great for aerial work in particular. The clean HDMI out on the A5100 also makes it great for connecting to transmitting gear or external recording devices.

My New Boy Jase

We were at the hospital for a few days and made it just in time! Michele had the baby just fine with no issues and everybody is perfectly healthy 🙂 He looks so much like Layla it’s amazing to me, but he is a brother so it does make sense. Note the more masculine features, yet Layla face in the side by side. So cool….. I took these all with the Sony A7s and sel35f28 lens.

Closing Remarks

That is about it for now everybody and what you can expect next on SonyAlphaLab is most likely my highly detailed Sony Alpha A7s Review which I am working on now. Unless some crazy announcement is made of course. I got all the A7s photos and video I need, I just have to put it all together now.

After that I was thinking about reviewing the new Zeiss Touit 50mm f/2.8 Macro Lens, and possible the RX100 III. I also have a request for the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 lens. That is always subject to change, but so far that is what I’m leaning towards.

Please feel free to ask questions and comments below as always.
Have a great day,
Jay

  1. Congratulations, Dad!
I spoke with a Sony sales rep yesterday and he informed me that Sony will be announcing 5 new E-mount lenses next month! Looking forward to your reviews when they come out. Thanks for your informative and interesting website. I’m enjoying my Sony RX100 II, A6000, A7 and A7R. I just don’t get to shoot as much as I’d like. But I retire next March, so I’ll get to indulge my passion more then.

    1. Thank you very much Mike 🙂 He is getting more handsome by the day! We tried to take a few newborn photos last night, but it didn’t go so well.. Will try again though…
      Jay

  2. Congratulations for the happy event… I am sure your new son will be the subject of a lot of your future photo work!! Happy life to the entire family.

  3. Congratulations to your wife. I’m sure she did most of the work aside from your nervous breakdown. Your new son is hansom. I look forward to pictures of the whole family.
    George

    1. Thanks buddy 😉 Family pictures will be a little while I’m thinking and you better believe she did most of the work! I would never want to do that.
      Jay

  4. Jay, congratulations. As you know, parenthood is a wonderful thing, and now it will be twice as much!
And too, thanks for the update on the forum changes. I have to admit, I infrequently would go there, however with your renewed effort and regular postings, I will try to incorporate into my routine.

    1. Thank you very much Mark and it’s a bit hard at the moment, but I totally hear ya 🙂
Thank you so much for tuning in to the Forum Whats Hot?? Area as well, because it’s clearly much more efficient for me to work it this way I feel. I could do numerous small posts on the main site, but it clutters up all the high quality content in my opinion. This way I can sprinkle all the killer forum activity Plus News, Reviews, Tutorials, Deals, Rumors, and much more…
Thanks again and please consider sharing on the forum if you have the time,
      Jay

  5. Congratulations to you and your family on the arrival of Jase! That’s great news! Jase probably doesn’t know yet that he’s going to feature heavily in future camera and lens reviews 🙂
Jay, I also wanted to let you know that when you reply to comments on your website (like this one) there’s no email notification telling me that you have replied. I’m guessing that it’s a bug in the website programming. Cheers.

    1. Thank you Daz and he already has tons of photo credit under his little onezee 😉
Thanks for the info on the comments and I finally figured out how to fix that think! Check out the check boxes now below the comment field, so you can get email updates and so fourth!! Hopefully it works like it’s supposed to.
      Thanks again,
      Jay
