Sony E-Mount Lens Guide Here >>

The Sony Nex-7 and a bunch of lenses arrived!! Nex-7 Glamour Shots

Sony Nex-7

I very excited to tell you that I just received the Sony Nex-7 from BHPhotoVideo.com along with the Tamron 18-200 f/3.5-6.3 VR III lens, Sony 30mm f/3.5 Macro Lens, and the Rokinon 8mm fisheye lens.  I’m also going to try and get more lenses as they become available, like the 24mm f/1.8 Carl Ziess, and the Sony 50mm f/1.8. So look out for those in the next few weeks, and if you have any lens request please let me know via, Google+ or the Comments section below!!

Before I  un-boxed the Nex-7 and all the lenses I took s a quick shot of all the gear in a pile. I can’t wait to try all these lenses out!! The Nex-7 box is really nice btw. They seemed to take a lot more time designing how the box opens and presents the camera to you. Reminds me a lot of how Mac boxes up there merchandise.  It’s always a fun experience opening a Macintosh Product because of this, and I think it was a smart move for Sony to adopt this “marketing philosophy”.

Now, I don’t have any other Sony cameras at the moment, so I took all these “Nex-7 Glamor Shots” with my Canon 5d Mark II and Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L IS lens or the Canon 135mm f/2 Lens.

Here is what the Nex-7 looks like from my studio 😉

As always, be sure to Click on the Photos for a nice large crisp 1200px version!

    1. Must all of the non-Sony lenses (I have several Canon lenses) be focused manually?

      Hello,
Yes you do, unless you get a electronic adapter. Currently I only know of one and it’s made by Metabones Here >>. It’s pretty expensive though, as it’s a pretty small company and not a mass production outfit.
In regards to manual focusing: Be sure to turn on Focus Peaking to help assist you in the process if you haven’t already!! Makes things much easier 😉 I have a Video Tutorial on How-To use it over Here >>

  1. I held the Nex-7 and I really like the feel of it but until Sony can make me a lens that can go up to 250-300mm it is worthless.
I shoot with a Sony a300 and paying $200 for an adapter lens just doesn’t make sense.

    1. Hey Vinny,
      Thanks for the comments 🙂

I’m not sure if Sony will go that route with such a small form factor camera. If they did make one it would probably be really slow (f/4-f/6.3) in order to keep the size reasonable. They do make the 55-2110mm which is a very nice lens and has an effective reach of ~315mm with the crop factor adjustment.
Beyond that I just can’t see them going bigger. I personally think the adapters are a bargain as it opens up so many more lenses options for a reasonable price. That lens adapters are what make the Sony Nex Camera system so appealing to many Pro’s and Cinematographers. They can simple buy an adapter and us all their Top Quality Glass on the Sony. Pretty amazing really!!
      You shoot wildlife?
