I managed to get my hands on the Sony FE 20-70mm f/4 G Lens and Sony A7CR for a bit while at the amazing Sony Kando event last year at the Snowbird Resort in Utah…
In the rest of these sample photos from more recent times I was using my Sony A7C2.
I was not able to do enough testing to publish a proper review, but I can tell you based on this real world walk about test, this lens is extremely sharp, has super punchy colors and contrast, and offers an incredible range without being to heavy or burdensome to carry. It also offers full weather sealing and the latest AF system for incredible speed and accuracy for high speed moving subjects. My kind of lens for sure!
I also enjoyed the extra resolution of the Sony A7CR, which allowed me to crop in on the grasshopper shot and few others to get a more enjoyable photo to my eye at least..
Now the only thing missing in this lens in my opinion is optical stabilization. It costs $1100 US and I feel like having OSS would really make this lens a must have for me, but would raise the price for sure… I think Sony was trying to keep the price point a bit lower, and the weight as little as possible, so they opted for no OSS which makes sense.
Also, be sure to check out my Sony E-Mount Lens Guide for all the currently available full frame and APS-C E-Mount lenses. Sony offers so many lenses these days it really is incredible how many optical options we have to create with…
Thanks for looking and if you guys have any questions please feel free to fire away!
