Hey everybody and welcome to SonyAlphaLab!! Today I’m going to share some more Nex-6 Sample Photos I took yesterday using the Canon 135mm f/2 L Lens and Fotodiox Lens adapter. This time I was shooting Wide Open @ f/2, and the results are worth sharing I think 😉 Something about that super narrow depth of field and buttery bokeh just mesmerized me and I can’t get enough. I also made a really quick HD video with the Nex-6 why I was at the gas station yesterday filling up.  I had the 135mm lens mounted @ f/2. I basically fooled around with the depth of filed a bit and really just wanted to illustrate what can be done with a really high quality lens mounted to the Sony Nex-6. Think Cinematography!! I really want to try to make a short film, but I have no clue where to begin. Any ideas??

When shooting Raw with the Sony Nex-6, you get an information packed file that Adobe Lightroom can manipulate hardcore!! Highlight and shadow detail is all recoverable even when it looks blow out. The colors are also way more natural looking as the Sony Jpegs really have the saturation jacked up. I also like sharpening the images my self, because the Sony Jpegs are bit over sharpened right off the camera with default settings.  Developing Raw files can take time though, so often shooting Jpeg is convenient for time savings. You can also choose different presets for your jpeg images and change the settings to boot. More on this later when I create some video tutorials on the Nex-6 menus and stuff 😉

      They are booth great cameras, but I much prefer the new 16MP sensor with the PDAF built in. It’s much faster focusing in all conditions. I also like the APP features on the Nex-6, because at Thanksgiving dinner I was able to turn my camera into a WiFi hotspot and share my pics with my Dad on his iPad. He simple downloaded the PlayMemories Mobile App and connected to my Nex-6 and sucked a copy of all the Thanksgiving pics off in about 20 seconds. He then had a high res copy in his photo album to look at instead of the small camera screen, and/or waiting for me to get home and upload and email. He was a happy camper!!
      Build quality wise, I like the Nex-7 metal skin better than the Nex-6 heavy duty plastic. The Tri-Nav is also better in some ways, but I really like the new set-up about the same. The Screen on the Nex-6 is a little more flimsy than the Nex-7.
      Basically your still getting a better built higher resolution camera with the Nex-7. It makes sense to be in another class.
      That being said, the Sony Nex-6 has more of what I personally want than the Nex-7 has. So for me the Nex-6 is the better choice at this point in time. I really want a full frame model though 😉

          Although very similar specs wise, I’m almost positive they are different viewfinder units. The Nex-7 definitely looked better from memory.
          Somebody reading this must know?? Please chime in!!

  2. Begin with story-boarding, defining Your visualization of the whole production (including angles and lenses and lighting… etc). Sketch (to whatever degree that You can sketch) what You visualize, then visualize what You sketched… Refine and redo. Then film and etc.

      Thanks for the tips!! I think I need to start with the basics and do some reading on the subject. Not sure what you mean by sketching?
      I think I’m coming at it from the wrong direction all together. I’m just walking around looking at cool scenes and trying to figure out how to film it or incorporate it into a film. That method of thinking is totally backwards clearly 😉

      It’s totally worth the Money!! Especially compared to some other lenses that are $1000. It’s pretty limiting though at 135mm!!
