I recently got a request on my YouTube channel to explain what S&Q mode was and how to use it. Basically it’s a function that allows you to record time-lapse footage and slow motion footage right on camera without having to do any post processing work. It’s pretty darn cool, but does have some significant limitations when it comes to bit rate/ video quality. Especially with the Slow motion video in particular.
I personally don’t use this feature for slow motion, because of the loss in video quality and lack of sound as well. I much prefer to shoot in regular movie mode using 1080/120p @ 100M for slow-motion and I have a detailed tutorial on how to process the footage in Final Cut Pro Here >>
As far as using it for time-lapse it’s pretty darn good, although still not as good as taking photos using the Interval shooting Function and creating the time-lapse in post which I created a detailed tutorial on Here >>
Now as far what is S&Q and How-To Use it, please check out this fantastic video courtesy of Mike Smith. I considered making a video tutorial myself, but Mike did such a phenomenal job in a very short period of time, so I would just refer you to this video!

Closing Remarks
So as you can see the S&Q feature is quite powerful, but also a bit limiting at the same time. I would recommend using it for in camera time-lapse footage when you don’t have the time or desire to create it using the interval shooting function method.
Please let me know if you have any questions and I will be happy to try and help you out. All the best, Jay
