In this video I will be reviewing the Neewer Upgraded 660 Bi-Color LED Video Light which is fairly small lightweight lighting solution that offers a variety of color temperatures, extremely accurate colors, is silent, and has the ability to use batteries for power making it great for remote shoots. With all that being said, it’s also very affordable at ~$115 US at the time of this review.
I purchased this light for myself, because I wanted to step up my video lighting game, and the current Impact lighting kit I have gives off tremendous heat due to the 500 watt incandescent bulbs. What I really wanted was a rim light as you will see in the review below.
This light also comes in kits, so you can use two or even three of them to get some really awesome results for a complete lighting solution. I’m actually using just one for now to complement my large umbrella Impact main light, or key light as it’s also referred to.
Variable Color Temp and Power Level
The fact the lights have a 3200K to 5600K variable color temperature means it’s easy to match this lighting source with whatever light you are currently working with, weather natural or if your using other studio lights like myself. In addition you can dial in the power output level from 0 to 100 which makes getting your required lighting ratio really easy.

A few Sample Photos using the Light
So I made this amazing shepards pie yesterday at the time of this review, and used just the one Neewer 660 light to illuminate this dish in a fairly dramatic way. I think the results are excellent, except for the dark shadow from the overhead shot. That shadow is a bit harsh, but if I added another light I could have easily fixed that. In this case I really wanted to show you what just the one light can do as a real world example.
In these next two shots I used my large Impact umbrella light for the main light and used the Neewer 660 for the rear rim light, and the results are excellent in my opinion.
Closing Remarks
So as you can see from the video, this light is pretty darn awesome and for the money an excellent value in my opinion. I’m really enjoying using it and I like the way my head shot video footage looks much better with the rim light. In addition, I’m using it for product photography as a rim light or kicker, and the results are excellent in my opinion. The fact that it makes no audible noise is also really important when it comes to video, so keep that in mind depending on your needs.
