Well, the Nex- C3 is finally here and I couldn’t be more pumped to get out and put this camera through testing. Before I can do that though, I need to take the studio shots of all the hardware BHPhotoVideo.com sent me before I got dust and stuff on it.
My initial impression of the Nex-C3 when I opened the box was, “Man that lens is huge!!” The camera being so small makes the moderately sized 18-55mm lens look like a soda can on an iPhone at 1st glance. “Very cool” was my very next thought as I pulled the camera out of the white protective bag. It’s pretty heavy, but almost all lens weight and has a very solid feel. The Sony E-mount appears to work awesome as there is no play or wiggle at all between the lens and camera. The screen is enormous and the articulation is incredible!! It rotates all the up to 90 degrees as you will see in the later Full Review of this camera. For now lets get a closer look at the gear.
Here’s the list of gear I’ll be Hands-On reviewing over the next few weeks:
- Sony Nex-C3
- Sony 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Zoom Lens
- Sony 16mm f/2.8 Wide-Angle Lens
- Sony Optical Viewfinder for 16mm f/2.8 Alpha NEX Lens
Here’s some High-res shots of all the gear:

This first set of images is exactly what the Nex-C3 looked like when I took it out of the box. I got the Nex-C3 kit that came with the Sony 18-55mm lens.
These next two shots show off the bottom of the camera and also give a good visual as to how thin the actual camera is compared to the lens.
In this next image I basically just pulled the screen out from the little tabs on the bottom. Then pushed the screen upwards. The screen needs to come out away from the camera in order for it to rotate both up and down.
Here’s the Nex-C3 with no lens attached:
Check it out with the 16mm Pancake lens:
In this next set of Images I put the supplied flash on. It simple attaches to the top of the camera behind a flip-up door. It then has a little thumb screw you need to tighten down, although its really tight Getting my fingers in there with the lens on. It might be easier with no lens.
Next, I took the flash off and replaced it with the Optical Viewfinder. I also put the 16mm Lens back on as that is all it’s designed for.
As you can see Michele and I have our work cut out for us, so please stay tuned for more on the Sony Nex-C3 Hands on review as it develops!! Also be sure to fallow us on twitter and facebook 😉
