Sony VCL-ECF1 Fisheye and VCL-ECU1 Wideangle Conversion Lenses for the 16mm f/2.8 Lens
The VCL-ECF1 and VCL-ECU1 Conversion lenses for the 16mm f/2.8 lens (sel16F28), are both great values for the dollar in my opinion. Going for ~110 US each, they provide you with much more flexibility, creativity, and maintain a fast f/2.8 Aperture!! They basically transform the 16mm (24mm equivalent) to a 18mm ultra wideangle lens, and a 15mm Fisheye lens while maintaining the f/2.8 aperture. I just recently finished reviewing these and I must say they performed really good. They also come in little hardened carrying cases for convenient storage which is a really nice positive for safe small storage!!

New Sony 20mm f/2.8 Pancake Wide Angle lens – SEL20f28
The 20mm f/2.8 Alpha E-mount Lens from Sony is a compact 20mm prime lens for the Sony NEX line of APS-C sized mirrorless cameras. Its 35mm focal length equivalent is 30mm which classifies it as a wide-angle lens with multiple applications. Its maximum aperture of f/2.8 is bright enough for low-light capture and shallow depth of field imaging and its optical design consists of three aspherical elements which correct distortions and aberrations and provide clear, high contrast, detailed images. A smooth, quiet internal stepping motor is used for both focus drive and aperture actuation and makes this lens ideal for shooting video. Less than an inch long and built with aluminum alloy, it is both compact and durable. Autofocus and Direct Manual Focus, which allows for precise manual focus even in AF mode, is supported for both photo and video.

Sony 55-210mm F4.5-6.3mm Lens – SEL55210
The Sony 55-210mm E-Mount lens is the perfect complement to the 18-55mm kit lens (SEL1855), and I really enjoyed reviewing it!! For my style of shooting I tend to prefer the higher focal length zooms though so keep that in mind. What is so nice about this lens is you can zoom right in to something from a distance and then zoom out and create a totally different composition. For Portraits and Sports in particular I love this. For example you can take a full body shot at 55mm, then almost instantly zoom in to 210mm for a killer head shot without even moving! Also with such a high focal length you can separate your subjects from the background very easily creating awesome depth and Bokeh’s.

Sony 30mm f/3.5 Macro Lens – SEL30M35
The Sony E-Mount 30mm Macro lens can produce true 1:1 Magnification!! However, you will need to be extremely close to your subject in order to achieve that due to the relatively wide focal length of 30mm. I believe Sony did this to simple keep the size of the lens as small as possible. Not the biggest deal, but worth noting if you plan on shooting living things. Being a prime lens, the Sony EL30M35 also makes for a solid wide angle portrait lens for the Nex camera system.

Sony 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Zoom Lens – SEL18200
The Sony 18-200mm lens is a great all around lens that can pretty much handle any photography situation. The SEL18200 is very large and heavy for the Nex camera system though, as it was originally engineered to balance with the Nex-VG10. I actually prefer this lens over the much smaller Tamron and Sony (SEL18200le) 18-20mm Lens versions. The Tamron and New Sony 18-200mm E-Mount Lens are significantly smaller and lighter, but the original SEL18200 is sharper in my opinion. At least with the lens copies I had

Sony 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Zoom Lens – SEL18200LE
The New 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Lens for NEX Cameras from Sony is significantly smaller and lighter than comparable lenses, and is a high magnification zoom lens perfect for a wide range of shooting situations with Sony’s NEX mirrorless cameras or handycam camcorders. With a compact size, achieved in part by downsizing the autofocus motor and optical image stabilization unit, the Sony SEL18200LE offers a powerful mix of versatility and image quality. This is perfect for shooting where a light, compact camera and lens combination is ideal.
With the broad focal length coverage of the lens, from 18mm wide angle to 200mm telephoto, it is also an ideal high-magnification “travel” lens. With it, you can capture grand landscapes, charming portraits, and even sports and nature shots. Optical SteadyShot (OSS) technology aids in this by cutting down on blur caused by camera shake, reducing the reliance on high ISO settings when shooting in dark environments.

- The broad focal length coverage of the lens, from 18mm to 200mm, makes it an ideal high-magnification “travel” lens for a wide range of photography. The telephoto capability of the lens makes it a good option for sports and nature photography as well

Sony 50mm F1.8mm lens – SEL50F18
The Sony 50mm f/1.8 E-mount Lens is probably the most anticipated and wanted E-mount lens currently out other than the Zeiss 24mm. 10-18 mm super wide-angle zoom lens
The SEL-1018 offers a constant maximum aperture of F4 through the entire focal length range, enabling use of the widest aperture at every focal length. Even in low-light environments, such as outdoors at sunset, users will be able to take advantage of the bright aperture and use fast shutter speeds without unnecessarily raising ISO sensitivity.
Superb image capturing capability
Three Aspherical lens elements correct for spherical aberration and distortion, making it possible to shoot high-contrast, high-quality images with markedly less bleeding even at the maximum aperture. In addition, the optical system employs Super Extra-low Dispersion glass, realizing highly detailed images with reduced color aberration even at the 10 mm focal length.
Minimum focal length of 10 mm (15 mm in 35 mm eq.)
Thanks to a minimum focal length of only 10 mm (15 mm in 35 mm-camera equivalency), the SEL-1018 delivers finely detailed, super wide-angle photos, ideal for shooting majestic landscapes that can only be captured with super wide-angle lenses, as well as for producing striking photos with emphasized perspective.
Built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization
The built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization system provides a 4-stop (approx.) shutter speed advantage, making it significantly easier to achieve crisp, blur-free images and video.
Internal Focusing System
Lens elements at the rear of the optical system move, allowing rapid auto-focus response.
Circular Aperture
In low-light shots or nightscapes, out-of-focus light sources have a pleasing circular defocused effect.

Rokinon 35mm T1.5 Cine Lens
The Rokinon 35mm T1.5 Cine Lens for Sony E-Mount with geared, manual focus and aperture control rings, is optimized for digital cinematography. The aperture ring has been “de-clicked” for smooth iris pulls, and depth of field markings provide an essential aid to focus pullers. Optically, this lens is identical to the Rokinon 35mm f/1.4, which is known for its excellent sharpness, contrast and bokeh.
Hybrid aspherical lenses and multi-layer coating produce sharply defined images with a minimum of flare and ghosting. There is slight vignetting at T1.5 on a full-frame sensor but it is nearly gone by T2.0, and APS-C or MFT sensors will probably never see it. The 35mm lens focuses as close as 12″ (30.48 cm) from the lens. A bayonet mount, petal-type lens hood is also included.
Key Features:
- At T1.5 this lens is great for low light and shallow depth of field

Lensbaby Composer W/Tilt Transformer for Sony NEX Cameras
Want some of that sweet shallow-depth-of-field razzle-dazzle? The Lensbaby Composer W/Tilt Transformer for Sony NEX Cameras offers two ways to inject a shot of magic into your pictures using your Sony NEX camera. The Composer (with Double Glass Optic installed) gives you the classic Lensbaby round “sweet spot” of focus, with access to the Optic Swap system optional accessories (Single Glass Optic, Plastic, Soft Focus, Pinhole/Zone Plate, etc.). To use the Tilt Transformer, remove the Composer Front Focus and attach any Nikon mount lens: you can fluidly swivel the lens, tilting it up to twice as far as with a standard tilt-shift lens, delivering photos with a slender slice of focus through the image, bordered by a soft blur. You control the size and the placement of the focus by shifting the lens until you have the effect you’re after, using the aperture to control the width of the zone that’s in focus.
Features
- Tilt Transformer:
When used with a Nikon mount lens, produces a slice of focus through the image - Tilt Transformer:
Width of focus slice is dependent upon aperture – f/1.4 will produce a very thin slice of focus with abundant blur, while f/22 will produce a very wide slice of focus with just a tiny bit of blur. Extreme tilt at a very bright aperture will make that slice appear even thinner. - Tilt Transformer:
Tilts up to twice as far as standard tilt-shift lenses making it possible to achieve more extreme blur falling off of a very thin slice of selective focus, as compared to the usual slice of focus width and focus fall-off of a typical tilt-shift lens - Tilt Transformer:
Built-in mechanism allows Nikon G lenses to function properly at all apertures. Nikon G lenses do not have an aperture ring on the lens itself. This mechanism allows the aperture to open and close by manually rotating the lens itself - Tilt Transformer:

The Lensbaby Composer Pro With Double Glass Optic (For Sony NEX Cameras) is part of the Lensbaby series of SLR lenses, and offers the same spectacular special-effect results. The refined and enhanced Composer Pro has an all-metal ball that gives you a more exact, smooth focus and tilt control and will retain its position after being bent, which makes it easy to use even with one hand. SLR Magic
SLR Magic 35mm f/1.7 MC lens for Sony E-mount
The SLR Magic 35mm f/1.7 lens is a multi coated manual prime lens that is made to work with the Sony NEX system for camera bodies such as the NEX-F3, NEX-5N, and NEX-VG20. Lens is in native E-Mount lens and will work directly on your camera!
What is really special about this lens is that it is very light weight (~100g) and has six unique aperture blades. When wide open itproduces silky smooth bokeh. When closed down to f2.8 it forms a special shape and the bokeh of the resulting photo start to swirl with a slight Lo-fi feel. When closed down to f8 it forms a unique square shaped aperture opening. In other words it is kind of likehaving three lenses in one! It is the signature of the SLR Magic lens and it is quite interesting.
The lens is great for creative photography. We occasionally receive questions about how this lens differ from the kit lens. Field of view (FOV) becomes 52mm on the SONY NEX camera. This is the normal focal length in 35mm photography and is great for use in proper framing for a shot which may be difficult to master with the kit lens of your camera. A perfectly round aperture is achieved at f2 for the 35mm f1.7 lens so it is great to use as a portrait/normal lens as its FOV becomes 52mm on the Sony NEX camera.
The lens is a fully manual lens and it is a great lens for creative photographers who would like to take artistic photos with a shallow Depth of Field. It is easy to use
Manual focus is easily achieved by the assistance of x7-X14 zoom of MF Assistance function in Live View. Users are advised to use Aperture priority (A mode) with this lens. User would have to select shoot w/o lens mode in the camera setting. More advanced users may use Manual mode (M mode) when using this lens for creative opportunities. It is also recommended to shoot in M mode when either the internal or external flash is used as TTL metering is not enabled in Aperture priority mode.

Zeiss Compact Prime CP.2 15mm/T2.9 E Mount with Imperial Markings
The Zeiss Compact Prime CP.2 15mm/T2.9 E Mount with Imperial Markings is a cine prime lens designed for filmmaking and video production applications. Aside from great optics and mechanics, it offers broad flexibility in the areas of camera compatibility, follow-focus compatibility, and shooting capacity.
Key Features:
- Super Wide Distagon 15mm Cine Prime Lens
- E Mount
- Body Markings in Feet
- T2.9 with 14 High-Precision Iris Blades
- Extremely Minimal Distortion
- Full Frame Coverage of 24 x 36 Sensors
- Interchangeable Mount System
- 300° Manual Focus Rotation
- Razor-Sharp Edge to Edge
- Precise Horizontal/Vertical Line Capture
Full Zeiss 15mm T2.9 Lens Overview and Specs
Announced at NAB 2012, this lens is a super-wide addition to Zeiss’s Compact Prime CP.2 family of cine primes. Like the rest of the family, the 15mm features an interchangeable-mount system that affords a major forward-looking benefit — not only can the lens now be used with cameras of different mounts, but rather it is ensured to also be compatible with most all future cameras. The system offers compatibility with PL, EF, F, MFT and E mounts. Zeiss’s website provides instructions on how to dismantle an existing mount and assemble a new one. The five mounts allow use with cine cameras and DSLRs.
The CP.2 15 is designed to shoot wide angles in tight spaces and does so very effectively. It’s a rectilinear flat field lens that does extremely well in the distortion area, minimizing it to almost non-existence and producing razor-sharpness to the very edges of a frame, even on full frame sensor cameras. The 15mm is a great tool for shooting architectural settings in confined spaces, as it accurately captures horizontal and vertical lines and delivers natural looks.
The optics and mechanics are superior too. The lens incorporates two aspheric lens elements and two special types of glass with abnormal partial dispersion that exceptionally corrects for chromatic aberration. Zeiss-famous T* anti-reflective coating along with internal light traps provide advanced flare suppression. Fourteen high-precision iris blades open up consistently circular across all T-stops, allowing impressive highlights in out-of-focus areas and producing smooth bokeh.
As for high flexibility, in addition to the interchangeable-mount system, the CP.2 15, like the rest of its family, provides full coverage of full frame 24 x 36 sensors. Accordingly, it can, now or at a future time, be used with any 24 x 36 sensor camera, such as the Canon 5D and 1DC and the Nikon D800.
The lens also offers follow-focus flexibility. Across the entire CP.2 family, the front diameter is consistent, focus and iris gears are standard, and the housing is cine-style, offering thus compatibility with all standardized follow-focus systems. In addition, the CP.2 15 also offers a focus ring rotation of a manual 300° and as such allows accurate follow-focusing.
Yet back to flexibility — for anyone who wants to take advantage of the 4K shooting capacity of many of the cameras being released, the entire CP.2 family, with the 15mm included, is 4K-compatible.
The 15mm is also color-matched with the rest of the CP.2 family, and so swapping it with another from within the family can conveniently be done without correcting for changes in post.
Built sturdy and with long-lasting optics, and promising future-proof compatibility, the 15mm can be relied on for many years of use in sharp resolution.
The particular page you’ve clicked on is for an E mount version with imperial body markings.

Accessories
Lens Filters
Lens Filters offer a variety of purposes, but are most commonly used for darkening the scene (or slowing down the shutter speed), Polarizing, UV, or lens protection.
Circular lens filters, like the Tiffen filter kit below, screw on to the front of the lens itself. It’s hard to see in the image to the right, but threads are there to except lens filters as well as the conversion lenses in this particular case with the 16mm Pancake Lens.
Most of the Sony E-Mount lenses take a 49mm lens filter size. However, be sure to check the specs on your particular lens before ordering as the 18-200mm lenses are 62mm and the Zeiss 24mm has a 40.5mm filter size. The lens filter size is in located on the front of the lens as you can see in the example photo to the right of the 16mm pancake lens.
Just like lenses, filters use glass!! The better quality glass, the more expensive the filter. Multi-coated lens filters tend to cost more just like lenses, and same goes for build quality etc.. Basically you get what you pay for. If you think about it logically for a second; Why would you want to put a cheap piece of glass in from of your expensive high quality lens glass?? It makes no sense from a optical quality stand point, so at the very least I recommend you get a mid-grade lens filter and use it only when you need it for it’s intended purpose.
One other important note about Lens Filter investments!! Lens filters can be expensive, so if you have a larger lens that you would like to use the lens filter on you don’t have to necessary buy two filters. What you can do is buy the lens filter for your largest lens that you plan on using it on, then buy lens step up adapters to attach the high quality lens filter to your smaller lenses. This is what I did, and ended up investing in One very high quality B+W 77mm BW Multi-Coated Thin Circular Polarizer. This will work on my all my lenses as long as I have the correct step up adapters. In my case I needed a 49mm(for most Nex lenses) to 77mm(my largest lens) Step Up Adapter >>, and I also needed a 62mm to 77mm Step Up Adapter >>. Another common step up adapter you may need would be a 49mm to a 62mm if you had both the Sony 18-200mm lens (62mm) and the 50mm f/1.8 Prime Lens(49mm), for example. You would then be able to use the large 62mm filter on the smaller 49mm filter sized lens. This is much cheaper than having one filter for each thread size!! Plus when you invest a lot of money, you want to get the most out of your Lens Filter Investment.
With all this in mind you may not know what filter to invest in, and even why you might want it? This is totally understandable and that is why I recommend getting a decent kit when your ready to play around with some filters
Once you figure out what filters work for your style of photography, you can then consider investing in a higher quality filter to preserve and enhance your optics to it’s best potential.
Lens Filter Kits For Sony Nex Lenses
Tiffen 49mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit
This entry level Tiffen 49mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit contains all the basics that an outdoor digital shooter will need. Not the highest quality filters on the market, but an nice affordable kit that includes all three basic filters and a carrying case for everything.
UV Protector
These are wise initial investments. They help protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.
Circular Polarizer
Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
Neutral Density
Neutral Density filters from Tiffen have several uses and offer the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. They enable the shooter to adjust exposure without affecting color balance. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the either the sensor of a digital camera or the film plane of a traditional film camera. Neutral Density filters are used to create some unusual special effects such as capturing the “blur” of the rippling water of a waterfall or the swirling effect of city traffic. Since they allow the use of slower shutter speeds in bright light, it becomes possible to create these special effects that would normally not be possible to capture without the filter. And since they can also help to control your depth of field, they permit you to shoot at wider apertures. Ultimately, their value is in helping to prevent bright, overly washed out images shot in bright light.
The entire kit comes with a Tiffen padded storage pouch that will help keep your filters clean and free from dust, dirt, fingerprints and other contaminants,.
Tiffen’s ColorCore glass is produced through a process that entails permanently laminating the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of a ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting them in precision aluminum rings.

Circular Polarizer
- This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays to remove haze from outdoor shots as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections, and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance
- Makes a blue sky bluer
- Enhances clouds
Neutral Density Filters Have Four Main Uses
- To enable slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with high speed ISOs, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars
- To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background
- To decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (above ISO 400) and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situation
- To allow cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which could cause overexposure
- Tiffen Quality
- Tiffen’s ColorCore glass is sealed between two optical glass sheets. In this way, Tiffen can better control the various densities of their filters and thereby create more exact degrees of filtration. This process makes for greater accuracy of color as opposed to glass that is simply dyed and become subject to deviation during the dye process
- Tiffen, a leader in the filter industry, proudly makes its filters in the USA and backs up its products with a solid 10-year warranty

Formatt 40.5mm Filter Kit Full Overview and Specs
Neutral Density 0.6
A neutral density filter has several uses and offers the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. It enables the shooter to adjust exposure without affecting color balance.
Graduated Neutral Density 0.6 (Soft Edge)
This filter has several uses and offers the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. It enables the shooter to adjust exposure without affecting color balance. A Graduated ND filter appears gray and reduces the amount of light reaching either the sensor of a digital camera or the film plane of a traditional film camera. It is clear at the bottom with a gradual transition to darker gray at the top. Primarily, this filter is used to control exposure when shooting bright landscapes where your horizon line displays a great exposure difference between sky and foreground and you need to balance them out for a pleasing exposure.
A Graduated Neutral Density filter is also used to create some unusual special effects such as capturing the “blur” of the rippling water of a waterfall or the swirling effect of city traffic. Since it allows the use of slower shutter speeds in bright light, it becomes possible to create these special effects that would normally not be possible to capture without the filter. And since it can also help to control your depth of field, it permits you to shoot at wider apertures. Ultimately, its value is in helping to prevent bright, overly washed out images shot in bright light. Soft/Hard designation indicates the degree of transition of the filter. Soft edge grads have a smooth transition from clear to ND. Hard edge grads have a more defined hard lined transition and should be used for longer lenses.
Circular Polarizer Filter
This filter is the most reliable way to make a blue sky bluer, enhance cloud formations or eliminate reflections from glass or water. By rotating the filter ring, you can increase or decrease the color saturation of the sky. When used in combination with other filters such as a Red 25, you can simulate the approach of a threatening storm.
Generally, the filter works to maximum effect at a 90 degree angle to the sun.
Skin Tone Enhancer Filter
This filter is designed to improve skin tones on portrait subjects. It’s also perfect for shooting outdoors when sunlight is clouded over and gray. This enhancer is especially useful for the digital and video market where subject appearance is critical.
By using this filter, your subject feels that he/she is looking their best, so your interview or presentation will come off at its best. The Skin Tone Enhancer is available is different grades which allow you to select the most flattering ‘shade’ for your subject.
Additionally, this filter is very effective for foliage, earth tones, or anything that seems ‘too blue’ in open shade. Portraits done outside on gray days take on a ‘pasty’ nature which does not necessarily compliment subjects. Adding a degree of warmth brings skin and other tones back to a normal look.
Full Frame Low Contrast 1 Filter
This is a valuable tool to have when you are shooting under very bright light i.e. mid-day, beach, etc. With the explosion of HD technology, using this filter will help when shooting on location (or studio) when a more balanced tone to the image is desired.
This filter distributes the ambient light all over the image area yielding a more even appearance. Shadows will be opened revealing more detail. However, the real benefit is that the highlights will not display any flair or halation.
Formatt square and rectangular filters are made from sheets of CR39 Resin sandwiched between two sheets of high-quality Schott glass. The reputation of Schott glass precedes itself and is world renowned. The dyes used are carefully manufactured and controlled and when sealed between the glass, become color consistent filter to filter. For the photographer/videographer/cinematographer, this means you can change filters from day to day or shot to shot knowing that your color consistency will be maintained.
Circular Polarizer
- This filter eliminates ultraviolet rays from outdoor shots as well as polarizing the light to remove reflections, and increase color saturation, without affecting the overall color balance
- Can dramatically enhance a blue sky and make the clouds more prominent
- Used best at right angle to the sun
- Effective with cameras that use beam splitters in the path of the TTL light meter and with AF cameras
Skin Tone Enhancer
- Adds warmth to skin tones
- Absorbs bluish cast from various light sources
- Warmer alternative than a UV filter
- Excellent for video and digital portrait work
- Can be used with other filters such as graduated filters
Full Frame Low Contrast
- Reduces contrast by evening out the ambient light in the frame
- Excellent when shooting under very bright light
- Using this filter will allow more detail to be revealed – opens shadows
- Spreads ambient light evenly
- Reduces contrast
Absorbing Cell Technology
- The secret to Formatt’s consistency in filter design lies in its unique “Absorbing Cell Technology” (A.C.T.); this unique process allows color correct dyes to be applied to optically pure, wafer thin absorbing cells and offers a controllability that ensures the smoothest grad lines and consistent color across the whole filter surface
- This process is revolutionary compared with conventional filter dyeing techniques by eliminating the need to directly coat the glass surface itself; the repeatable performance gained through A.C.T. ensures that at any time you have to swap like filters for like filters mid shoot you can do so with confidence with no discernible differences in color or density
- Each filter is guaranteed flatness to a maximum 2-wave value and comes with an individual reading from a laser interferometer; every filter is carefully verified with a densitometer and spectrophotometer to ensure consistent and accurate transmission, before leaving the factory – the result is an absolute purity of image that eliminates any unwanted color cast caused by conventional greenish soda-lime glass
- Formatt, a company with three generations of professional filter-making experience produces every filter to the highest technical standards. The finest materials, together with state of-the-art production technology have resulted in a standard of optical excellence unmatched anywhere else
