Sony Alpha A7r II vs A7r and Quick Unboxing! In Stock!

Sony Alpha A7r II

The New Sony A7r II has arrived in the lab courtesy of BHPhoto and it’s also now In Stock! I played around with the camera a bit and recorded some hands-on video including a quick unboxing, and comparing to my older A7r. I also did a live test of the shutter sound in speed priority mode using both cameras so you can hear the audible differences very clearly.

As I was unboxing the new Sony A7r II, I was talking as if this was a used camera, because BHPhoto sends me review units from time to time. Since then though, my friend and Sony Artisan Spencer Pablo, has told me that the New Sony A7r II cameras don’t have a seal on the box or tags on the actual camera at all. I was not aware of this, but clearly he would no better than I 😉 Therefore, this may in fact be a brand new unit from BHPhoto after all…

Not a big deal either way for my purposes, but I wanted you to know that BHPhoto sends me review units from time to time and they are not always brand new. More so with lenses, but sometimes with cameras also…. This would only apply to affiliate reviewers, like myself, and never to a regular customer!
I want to be very clear and make sure that everybody knows they would never get a used unit from BHphoto, unless purchased used of course…

I’m really sorry for any confusion in this matter, because it’s totally my fault for not explaining more clearly when I was unboxing the unit.

Closing Remarks

That is about it for now, but please stay tuned for some hard core AF focus testing with my Canon EF lenses plus Metabones III electronic lens adapter. My EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS Lens in the lab at the minimum focus distance will prove without a shadow of a doubt how good the PDAF on sensor technology works with electronic lens adapters.

Thanks again for checking in and please feel free to ask questions or comment below as always,
