I just got my hands on the Sony Alpha 35 and I got all sorts of Full Res image samples to show you guys as well as my first impressions of this camera and lens combo. The full specs on the Alpha 35 and the Sony 16-80mm f/3.5-4.5 Carl Zeiss Lens are over Here>> from my article last week.
My initial impressions of the Sony Alpha 35 are very good! If your familiar with my reviews, you’ll know I just got done reviewing the Nex-C3 which in comparison is basically the ultra compact version of the a35. The a35 however can focus with the speed and precision of Phase Detection AF. The SLT-A35 utilizes Translucent Mirror Technology which directs light to both the image sensor and the Phase Detection AF sensor simultaneously. This results in much faster focus than the Nex-C3 and I noticed that right away. The focus tracking is also very good in video mode which I tried a few times with Layla. I’ll be putting that video up shortly.
The Body of the SLT-A35 feels pretty solid although I have hit the WB button about 10 times by mistake already for whatever reason. Perhaps it’s a tad small for my hands compared to my Full Frame 5D Mark II. In comparison to the Nex-C3 I really like this style camera body much better. It’s so much easier to use and navigate to the necessary camera settings while taking pictures.
The Sony 16-80mm f/3.5-4.6 Carl Zieiss Lens is a pretty hefty lens weight wise and matches up to the a35 nicely. The lens is very sharp and the the equivalent 35mm focal length of 24-120mm is an excellent match for the 16.2Mp Exmor APS HD CMOS Sensor.
