Remember when I said the word “affordable: above? Well the Toma Half Case goes for only £24.99, and the Wrist Strap is only £14.99!! That is really affordable if you ask me, especially when comparing it to the 3x more expensive cases out there. Does the build quality hold up?? Read on to see for yourself, but if you can’t wait, Yes it does!!
Toma Nex-6 Genuine Leather Half Case
Note the slightly notched area for the lens release button on the front.
The inside is a nice soft suede material that will not harm the camera in any way. It’s very soft to the touch as you might imagine.
On the bottom we have the tri-pod mountable screw, but no battery compartment access.
Check out the quality stitching and tri-pod mountable attachment screw.
Note the large slot for tightening. I like to use a large coin (quarter), for this as they are usually in my pocket or lying around close-by. My Gitzo tri-pod head locking lever also works as a nice flat head screw driver in a pinch for stuff like this.
Here’s another view of the inside and you get a slightly better look at the mounting screw.

Toma Wrist Strap and Half Case on the Nex-6
Not having my Nex-6 to take the photos of the actual camera in the case with the wrist strap, I used the new Cyber-shot DSC-HX300!! It’s packing a 50x optical zoom Zeiss lens and 20mp sensor. The depth of field and jpeg processing are what stand out most to me when comparing these product photos to the above product photos taken with my Nex-6 and 18-55mm kit lens.
The Toma wrist strap is adjustable and has a simple slip knot style design. Basically you just slide you hand in and the strap self tightens when you pull away from the camera. It’s very effective and allows you to easily hold the camera while the strap is on your wrist snugly. It’s comfortable and made with very strong nylon which is then interwoven with the leather. I needed to adjust it once or twice to get it just right for my wrist and hand holding position ect..
The Nex-6 screen opens and closes with no issue encase you were wondering! Check out how the notch on the left side which although covers up the ports, allows you to grab the edge of the screen to easily pull it outward.
The Toma Sony NEX-6 Genuine Leather Half Case fits nice and snug to most the camera body. It is slightly loos around the grip area, but conforms to the grip when you actually squeeze it to hold. I think with extended use it will mold itself to my fingers a bit and really become ultra form fitting. Time will tell, but leather loves to conform, just think about how work boots get more comfy with the break-in period. Same goes here I feel.
These Toma Genuine Leather accessories Courtesy of LoveCases.co.uk are a great value for the dollar in my opinion, and I highly recommend them. The Half-case will offer some protection if you were to drop it and it lands on the base or lower corner that is covered. I would say little to no damage depending on the lens attached of course and how it actually lands. That being said, it’s nice to have something as apposed to nothing in regards to protection.
Even with the case mounted on the Nex-6, you can still mount it to a tri-pod or quick re-lease plate in my case, thanks to the special dual threaded design. It’s sturdy enough as long as you don’t have a monster lens attached. It does have a little flex do to the padding ect.. The Toma case also has a shank that runs across the bottom to give it some extra rigidity!
I particularly like the wrist strap for the extra security when hand holding. If you bump your hand on something for example the camera could easily fall to the ground with no wrist strap! The Toma Genuine Leather Hand / Wrist Camera Strap is staying on my Nex-6 for sure. It also feels like it will last forever with the heavy duty stitching, thick leather, and interwoven nylon strap!!
The only downside of the Toma Half-case is the lack of battery/ memory card access, and hdmi/ usb port access. However, considering the price point and how easy it is to take the case off, it’s not that big of a deal in the end. I could see it being annoying though at some point if it was a time sensitive issue and I could not find a coin or something to unscrew the case off with. Keep that in mind when your out an about!!
If your looking for an even higher quality camera case with port and battery access, be sure to check out the Gariz Half-case Mike Hendren reviewed a few weeks ago (Click Here). The Toma cases are about 1/3rd the cost of the Gariz cases though, so keep that in mind when you see the prices and build quality design differences.
