Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens

The Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens was announced a long time ago now, and is finally making it’s way into quality reviewers hands 🙂 In this article I’m going to link up all the quality Hands-On Reviews I have found on the web!

The basic’s of this lens are it’s the best possible quality available 70-200mm lens, and a pro grade unit in all regards. Not exactly cheap at $2598 US, but with the killer build quality and fast f/2.8 ultra high quality optics, you do get what you pay for. Also, it was rumored to be over $3k, so the price fair considering other Sony high quality optical prices in my opinion. Two teleconverters are also available for use with this lens and cam provide you a extra 1.4x or 2x depending on your needs.

The Sony FE 1.4x Teleconverter goes for $548 US and the Sony FE 2.0x Teleconverter also goes for $598 US.

  1. Hoping for more professional reviews specially comparing to the Canon IS ii.
Steve “I see dead people” Huff has zero credibility and John Sison reviews are mostly fluff without any real valuable comparisons unfortunately.

    1. Thanks for the feedback Mark 😉 I thought these reviews combined gave a decent real world impression of what it is capable of, and how it performs in the real world. I will certainly review this lens, but probably not for a a few months realistically. Ideally I would like to try it on the A6500 and A7r II, real world and lab of course…
Thanks again for the comments and feedback Mark! I really appreciate it,
      Jay

      1. I cant wait for your review. You do lab tests and real world too so we get a perfect combo. If you look at Sison’s stuff for example, there is really not much content to base a purchase decision on. And Steve…well, he raves about anything NEW that he gets and after his BS comparison of the Sony 50mm 1.4 vs the 55mm where everyone told him he was wrong and he wouldnt admit it until much later coming up with some dumb excuse…well as I said, ZERO credibility lol
        Thanks

        1. Thanks Mark I really appreciate the kind words and further explanation of your preferred review coverage 😉 I find being honest is always the best way to go in life and I appreciate those types of reviews as well. I have zero incentive to lie, because if I were to say something was good, people would buy it and see it is crap and never trust me again. The FE 24-70mm f/4 OSS ZA Lens is a perfect example. That lens sucks and I said it day one. I then re-reviewed the lens to only confirm it still sucks. It is what it is, and I try and review that way as best I can. I enjoy watching others peoples perspectives on gear though as well, so it’s nice to have a few perspectives on any given gear. I can’t possible know everything however and Steve Huff for example is extremely knowledgeable in some areas I am not. I understand what you mean about the credibility and that is extremely important to me. This is why my reviews take so long to complete, because the testing is very rigorous in general and it’s time consuming to say the least…
I’m working on getting the FE 70-200mm GM OSS Lens for review, but it’s still at the very least, a month or two away. I want the A6500 and A7r II to test it properly, but I will only be able to get one camera at a time most likely due to the cost. Perhaps a two part review is in order, or I will just use my A7r for full frame IQ testing and the A6500 for sports testing.
Thanks again for the reply and take care,
          Jay
