rokinon-lens-reviews

Oh yeah, got some killer Rokinon lenses on the way courtesy of BHPhotoVideo.com!! Specifically the Rokinon A-Mount 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical Lens, 35mm f/1.4 Wide-Angle US UMC Aspherical Lens, 14mm Ultra Wide-Angle f/2.8 IF ED UMC Lens, and the Sony LA-EA1 lens adapter!! I will be reviewing all these lenses using my personal Sony Nex-6, hence the adapter, so be ready for some really intriguing photographers in the upcoming weeks 😉 Requests also encouraged if you want to see something in particular photographed!

I’ve been wanting to get my hands on the rest of the Rokinon lens line since reviewing the Rokinon 8mm f/2.8 UMC Fisheye Lens (Click Here for My Review). I was very impressed with the build quality and sharp corner to corner optics of the fisheye, and have heard nothing but raving reviews on the Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 lens. It was about time to try these bad boys out in the real world!!

I recently bought the 85 – now I’m drooling for the 35. Would love to hear your take on it Jay.

    • Jay

      Hello Lloyd,

Thanks for the comments, and what are your thoughts on the 85mm?? Which camera body are you using out of curiosity? I will be using the crop factor Nex-6 body, but these lenses are Full Frame capable. I wish the full frame Nex-9 was out already!!

I’m also looking forward to the 35mm lens being as I just reviewed the E-Mount 35mm f/1.8 OSS lens for comparison. Two completely different animals though really 😉

      Best,
      Jay

So far, I love it. I haven’t really had a chance to go out and shoot much because of the weather (Detroit). I’m using it on my a77.

      T^hanks Lloyd,

I keep forgetting your the same guy with a different name on the forum 😉 sry about that and killer sample photos of what that lens can do. I remember seeing them when you posted them a while back.

I still have not opened the new Rokinon lenses as I need to finish my Toma lens case and wrist strap review, plus post some first impressions of the killer 50x DSC-HX300 I’ve been carrying around for a few days. 50x is insane zoom!!

  3. NOOOOO you should have got the LA-EA2, i have the LA-EA1 and its SLOOOOOOOW, as in you might as well manual focus.

I have read amazing stuff of these Rokinons… and the effect of such really cheap but amazing glass with Focus peaking of your Nex-6 will be great to see. Hope you make a point on that as well… :D.

I felt the focus peaking on EVF is a ground breaker for SONY and they really have to advertise efffectively…It just eases the flow for using beautiful manual focus lenses such as this Rokinon and old classic m42 lenses such as Super Takumar 50 f1.4…available so cheap nowadays…

    • Jay

      Hello Anoop,

I checked out that Pentax Super Takumar 50 f/1.4 on Ebay (click Here) Pretty awesome looking lens for the money!! I want one 🙂 I have the Minolta 50mm f/1.4 and it’s pretty nice!!

You are totally correct about the advertising of the focus peaking feature. I constantly talk about it, but Sony does not 😉

I will certainly show off the focus peaking feature on my Nex-6 when using the Rokinon lenses, so stay tuned for that in the upcoming days and weeks.

Talk to ya later and thanks again for the comments!!

      Jay
