Lightroom Set-up and Importing – 3 Part Series!

In this video tutorial we will go over briefly how Lightroom ‘s database works and what you need to know about it. Then we will discuss some prep work, such as folder organization options and importing for the first time. Next we will go over a few Lightroom settings/ options that I think are important and worth knowing about.

Finally we will import some folders and go over the Lightroom import dialog in detail!

Part #1

Part # 2

In this part we will create a new Lightroom catalog/ database as if it was a customer shoot and import the photos from a memory card . We will go converting your raw files to Adobe’s native .dng format, re-naming best practices, backing up to another hard drive , and creating presets for a faster workflow!

Part #3

In this part we will go over a little more about the XMP files and how it works in Lightroom 3 . Then will open my personal Lightroom Catalog so you can see how I have it all set-up with the external hard drives ect…

Closing Remarks

I hope you all got something out of this tutorial series and even though it is by today’s current standards an older Lightroom version, all the concepts still apply with the latest versions of Lightroom.

Please feel free to ask questions if you have them, and have a great day!
