Fotodiox Pro Lens Mount Adapter with Built-in Aperture Iris – Does the Aperture do anything?? Tested on Sony Nex-7 with Canon EF 135mm f/2 L Lens

T

here has been some serious speculation on the web about the Fotodiox Pro Lens Mount Adapter with Built-in Aperture iris. Does the aperture actual work? How can it work if it’s not actually in the lens? Does the depth of field actually change?

I will answer all these questions and more in the video below! Basically what I did was set-up a little test in the Lab using a 4 foot level and some woods screws creating a nice somewhat measurable depth of field. Well, at least visually measurable 😉

This test was done using the Sony Nex-7 and the Canon EF 135mm f/2 L Lens and the Fotodiox Pro Lens Mount Adapter with Built-in Aperture iris for Canon EF to Nex (E-Mount):

  1. Thanks for the review! I see that it does help a bit however not as much as I’d like. I think I’ll order one of the mount adapters without the iris since I’ll probably just use it wide open.

      Rich,

Yeah, I here ya! I still haven’t had a chance to try this in the real world to much, because I have 4 lenses for the Nex-7 I need to use as well. In my full review of the fotodiox lens adapter I will have some serious real world examples. Shooting wide open works for a lot of situations though and the non iris version adapters are significantly less expensive!!

What is the max Aperture setting wide open ?
If i use à Canon 1.2/85 lens and the maximum opening of the adapter is 2.8 what is the point using it ?

There is no point with that lens, The IRIS is useless for all intensive purposes and you should go for a higher quality adapter for that lens in my opinion. It’s just to heavy and expensive to take any chances with a cheaper adapter. http://amzn.to/1Oq6l2B
