Moon - Sony A6500 + FE 70-200mm GM Lens + 2x Teleconverter

I took this photo via a request from you guys and was quite pleased with the results. Some of the best detailed Moon frames I have ever gotten for sure. I used the Sony A6500 and FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens + FE 2X Teleconverter. First I shot Raw Quality for a baseline. Then I switched to Jpeg quality, so I could try the Clear Image Zoom feature and get an extra 2x zoom.

I should have said thanks for tip on "clear image zoom." I had no idea I had that function on my camera. Makes me wonder how much more functionality I do not know I have.....

Hmmm, interesting.

It would be nice if you could process/crop the raw image to get an apparent object size close to the digital zoom to compare for artifacts. The JPG looks nice but smoothed all over. I suspect the raw shows more texture.

Nevertheless, the lens + TC is definitely sharp and the focus is dead-on. Seeing conditions were probably just right also; the results are gorgeous.

There is a rumor about a soon-to-be-released Sony FE 100-400mm lens. That would be tremendous for that type of shot, especially if TC-compatible. We'll know soon enough...

Ok, I should have checked before I asked the previous question. My primary interest was targeted at the A6000 I own.

The digital zoom setting is deactivated in my case so I thought my model was too old to have this feature. Turns out that is the case because I shoot in raw (+jpeg). I changed that to "jpg only" and bingo, Clear Image Zoom is there. I'm using the latest firmware so maybe this detail is important for older hardware. Nevertheless, this is one feature I will test the next time I shot deep-telephoto. Count me in the skeptic until further notice but it would be cool if this feature could optically match a 2X tele-converter without the light loss and inherent resolution degrade.

It's always nice to discover a "new" feature in an "old" camera.

There is a nagging rumor that Sony will have a "big" announcement in April. Could be new body but also lenses.

The following FE-mount optics could be unveiled:

16-35/2.8 GM
100-400 G (5.6-ish I suppose)

Thanks for all the comments everybody I do believe I could have gotten a slightly better result enlarging/ working the raw file in photoshop, but considering the clear image zoom took zero effort, and is straight off camera, I'm happy with the results....
