Internet antivirus

I have been told be many that you don't need to have a running antivirus on your new computer because they have got a built in one.
Honestly I think this might be ture but at the same time I would think it wouldn't be the very best one out there.
So on my last laptop I had Trend Antivirus and this one worked well and I was really pleased with it.
Then I got to know this fella who told me he at one stage built computer and only use Kaspersky Internet Antivirus.

Personally I take people on face value and he seemed to know what he was on about so I thought with my new laptop I would give this one a try.
Got it cheaper than Trend and also got it for 2 years.

I have now had it on here for a few weeks or close to that and I have found it really good and I do feel its better than Trend.
When I go to buy something of ebay I get swapped over to a new security page and it opens up there.
To me it is a good way to do things and I am more than happy with it for the running on my laptop doing just normal daily stuff.

I am not telling you to go out and get it, but more of to let you know that I think this is a good one and could serve you well.

On the photo side of things I have been very slack lately but I am hoping to head out to capture the last part of the moon tonight.
Just need to rug up as I hate Winter which we are in now. But I do know its mild to what most of you get there.
SO if all works out okay I will post up a shot or 2 later tonight.

Best of luck Gramps and I now actually do use one on my Mac as well called Avira. Seams to work pretty good without stealing to many resources as far as I can tell anyway

I just heard Kim Komando on the radio and she is high on Kapersky. (I think there may be a sponsorship connection---not sure---but I think Kim Komando is generally honest in her opinions.

All vendors of AV are pretty good.
Kaspersky did get pinged a year or two ago for artificially inflating the virus figures they had found and cleaned and was a bit of muck slinging for a while.

The big vendors to swap info on viruses the get and clean in labs etc which benefits everyone.

Comes down to common sense and being careful about minimizing your risk etc.


MS av is rubbish and have been marked very low in effectiveness by web sites that do security etc. MS are trying to be everything to everyone...so The only thing I would say is stick with a product that the company has been doing this sort of thing for a long time and not because they want a bit more cash and market share......
We use Trend deep security at work and I have used AVG, avast and trend at home.....all seemed good.

All this was done for was to open up about what I have found works for me.
This Kaspersky one was pointed out to me by a friend who said he use to put computers together from scratch, and he told me this one was the best.
So far I really like it as when I go to buy anything it takes me to a secure page, which is a feature I think is tops.
I have run trend for a long while but never found it to to this.
And yes you do need to watch where you go and its a very good point.

This same person told me about doing the double security on gmail.
Telling me its protects you because these hackers have to get through your password then this new code.
I done it and then got out of it to see how it worked. Well I found it a pain in the backside as you had to put in your password then this code.
So I turned it off within 2 minutes, so not all he has come up with is worth wile looking at.

two factor authetication is what its called....yes its a pain ..buts becoming more common.

If you dont want to use it....make sure you use long passwords....or a pass phrase.....like "I really h@te Passw0rds"

Pass phrases are a real good compromise and a sentence is easy to remember and very secure when mixed with characters.

for example my online banking password/phrase is at least 30 characters long

Good point Steve and thank you for that to as I would hope others read this and it helps them out also.
When I make up a password it has got all they ask for plus more.
I don't use things that are quite obvious to all.
Then I have to put them down on a work page and save that.
But about every couple of months I will change them to different ones.
So I understand the pittfalls to some passwords but I'm sure I have made it hard for people to work mine out.
But then again there is no full safe way to make sure someone doesn't work it out, hence the changing of it regularly.

I use very complicated passwords but probably would not do it without a password manager. I use Dashlane and it has worked very well for me and makes it easy to sign on all my frequent websites (about 20 or so).

I have 3 passwords/Phrases I use...

a longer one for my banking related stuff and anything like that where details...of me are important.

2nd one is slightly less longer but still a phrase...

and a 3rd is only 9 characters and a mix of numbers and capitals.....

we have a security team at work and specialise in testing companies security(company hires them to test external and internal security)......you would be surprised how easy it is to crack passwords....thats all I am saying 8-)

My laptop remembers mine if I ask it to do that which I do use on normal web site like this one.
But when I go to buy from eBay and I am ready to pay my antivirus takes me to a secure page and opens up there.
Which makes me feel good. Though I do think this is more for the honest thief.
The ones who really know what they are doing I am sure would be able to get in some way.
But tot his date I have been okay so I will keep with me way as it has worked out good.

I've been using Intego's Virus Barrier for Mac for many years.
And I bought myself a Surface Pro last year, and I started to hunt for AntiVirus for Windows.
I did not like Norton... anyway, I ended up with Bitdefender.
From my experience, it's the least intrusive (annoying) anti-virus and anti-malware etc I know. Recently, my Intego Virus Barrier licenses for Mac expired, so I use Bitdefender for Mac as well.

Years ago when computers were not that good I bought a new laptop and we talked with one of the young fella's there and he told us about Norton.
So it was about 3 months later when we saved up enough and could go out and buy.
The older man was there and tried to get us to buy Norton with it and we told him what we were told and he fully disagreed.
Then the young fella happened to walk out and we told him to ask him.
We he back pedaled them but since then we have not like Norton.
But I do like Trend and I really like this Kaspersky one I use now.
