[Gramps]

The name or title to this is what this is about.
I am not one of those people that take a great amount of interest in it.
Mainly I think because there really isn't too much I can do so why not leave it to them who have the power.
Yes there are going to be times when I think this isn't going to be good for us, but then there are the times in opposite to it.
So I fine it sort of annoying when friends keep posting up all about political things.
One time I even said if you feel that strong about it then get into politics and do something about it.
Well that ended that discussion real quick.

I really don't have view on who is in power at any time.
There are things every mob in, will do that you don't like but to to post and post about it.
And all you get is their point of views all the time.
Are they right ? Well they could very well be.
We have got only 2 parties that can take power which are Labor and Liberal Party.
But Labor had aligned itself with the Greens and the Libs with the National Party.

When we vote most times it is an Independent just to throw a spanner in the works.
Though quite a lot of the time we do vote Nationals as they are supposed to be for the man on the land.
And this means the people who grow the fruit in my area and other places.
So we vote for them to help out our farmers, not sure if it does but I think I rather do that then pick one of the major mobs.

Well this morning I opened up my facebook and there was 30 plus notifications from these 2 people.
They are my sister inlaws father and her half brother who live in another state, but are more than vocal on these matters.
It was time to act. I went to my main page and put a tick on unfollow.
So now I should still friends with them but by rights I should not get all their stupid posts.
Let you know if it does later when I know.
There really are 2 things that I have no interest in and that is politics and religion.
Might be a few more but those are the main ones.

Talking politics is a dangerous topic. There aren't many people willing to listen to your (excellent) points and reasons of opposing party they support/affiliate with. Like religion, it is (extremely) unlikely to change someone's belief. Many general-interest forums simply ban the talk of political (and religion).

Also, as in general, you can take age of other person into consideration. If the other person is young, chances are he or she is energetic with energy and time to argue/debate... If the other person is aged, chances are that person could be stubborn and refusing to budge, even worse, whinging all day (and yet can't provide any sounding reasons).

I volunteer my time with a group of old fellows. Unfortunately, from time to time, I do have to shut them up.
To be clear, I always welcome debates and complaining with good reasons. Not whinging without good ground.

Labor or Liberal, we still need to pay taxes, still performing our daily tasks.

That should work. You can also click "Hide Post" on the down pointing arrow. Facebook will show you less of posts like the ones you hide.

Antony you have got it in one I really don't care who is in at any time.
We do have to pay no matter who is in.

The only political thing I will say is, here in Victoria, our Victorian Labor Party wanted to put a toxic dump close by.
They said if we took it we would get back the Rail service and all roads leading to us would be fast track to be repaired.
But where they wanted to put it was too close to the River. So we all banned together and with a collective stick it where the sun don't shine.
We got it stopped. And in doing that we still have got crap road and a train service that is only for cargo.
So they (Labor) will never get my vote to be in power in Victoria.

On the friends who have very strong views, I just ticked the unfollow.
And this still lets you be friends but you don't get to see their stuff unless you go to their page.
Its working really good.

Perhaps "they" like to call that a "deal" or "compromise". To every sane person actually lives around, it's blackmail.

It was and they tried to send a delegation to get us all to change our minds.
But it was only going to be 12 kilometer from the River.
But they said it would be in a closed room which had 1 or 2 foot of concrete all around it.
But as I am sure most of us know Concrete cracks. And it wouldn't take too much for it to get into our water.

This is why I have a black ban on them here.
But too many people still thinks we will get the train back.
It has been gone for way too many years now, and the cost to bring it back it way to high.
I even know that its too expensive. For a maybe 10 people a day to go from here to Melbourne on it.
So its a done deal as far as I can see.

I usually talk to other members of local community... if they don't like government's or council's proposal, there are a few ways... contacting member of opposition party, and contact current affair type media to shame the council.
Or remind community to vote the current party out.

Antony I am not sure what can be done as it was now a couple of different governments have come and gone since that has happened.
And to be honest it wouldn't change a thing anyway. Too many people here sit with false hopes and they get fed each voting time that they will do their best to bring things back.
I call them false hopes as it will not and I just don't see wasting time on things I know where nothing will change.
And why waste time on things you can't change.
Like the facebook thing I could change and I did change it.

I have just taking your advice and pressed the un-follow button, I only use Facebook to check what my family and friends throughout the world are doing, I'm sick of having to scroll through pages of biased socialist £$@#

Now I have nothing against political debate, I just don't think Facebook is the place for it (especially after we have just had an election, and it is a long time till the next)

Tikcus I have seen the really good side of facebook as the wife is now in contact with her cousins in Wales.
I have seen the bad side of it and it can destroy friendships as I think people tend to get a little over aggressive on there.
But doing the unfollow stop it all which keeps friendships alive.

Instead of "Unfollow", I tend to use "Hide (and See fewer posts like this)" so I can see see other kind of posts form certain guy.
And I believe Facebook's algorithm is pretty good, which means similar posts from other people should also be blocked, apart from this particular one.

I have done that more than one time one a few other peoples post but with the ones I am on about are just posting this tree hugging crap and political crap.
Nothing else, but they never make any comments on your page but fill your page with all their stuff.
So the line had to be drawn and I am happy to say I have not missed seeing all the crap since doing the unfollow.

They even went as far as to ask for a birth certificate, drivers license or SocialSecurity card. That was the last straw! it's been a bit of a withdraw, but there was no way i was going to be blackmailed by them holding my Facebook page hostage until i gave them enough personal information.

If that is how they treated you I would for one say good on ya.
So far I have done okay with them but I am certain if they tried that on with me a few choice works would be typed back to them.
The closest thing that we had heard of is that they made our niece change her last name or they would shut her down.
So she did it and is still on there whinging nearly ever time she posts.
