My Minolta 70-210 Beercan lens

The following shots were taken with my Minolta 70-210 beercan lens. The shots belong to different category & hence thought of putting it in one place. Considering the age of this lens, the output is too good.









I really liked the blue tint on it's feathers. Wish I had a macro lens.


This was an HDR shot. But the output did not come out well.

Very nice photos Cinjith. That lens looks sharp and produces and excellent bokeh, which I am not surprised These lenses were built so incredible well, they still work after 30-50 years? Incredible. Nothing made to day is built to last like that.

Cat portraits are fantastic! The eyes are gorgeous and you came up with some very eye pleasing compositions.

The blue on the wings does look really cool, I agree. HDR is really hard on some subjects, and will not come out good. Yours looks pretty good though I think? It is weird, but sometimes it just doesn't blend like you expect it to.

Wonderful shot . Sometimes these lenses bring in bit of chromatic aberration which you can get rid of using LR. Left side on the tree branches at some area I see bit of purple aberration .

I'm not familiar with the "beercan" lens, but heard a lot about it...looks like it produces amazing results.
I really like the color & depth of the shots.

Hi Dragion yes it indeed is a great lens & considering its age (made in the 80s), it works like a charm. It has constant F4 aperture throughout its range. Except for the weight (almost a kilo due to full metal body) everything is just great. This is more of a collectors edition for me.

Brian, thanks for bringing this thread back to life. I had not previously seen these shots. Really great captures and love what that lens can do. Old school lenses can be very rewarding if you like playing around with them & seems like the Sony cameras are really set up well to get the most out of them.

Same here, I missed this the first time around. Great pictures. You should have seen my daughter's reaction when she saw the first shot. Love at first sight!!!

I also like the hill picture. All in all, impressive lens.

Thank you fellows . Out of this 70-210 'Beercan Lens ' is still my favorite .Only downside I felt is the weight. It weighs close to a Kilo .Full metal body.

I think I'm going to have to take my MD 100-200 out for a spin, even if it loses 40mm to the beercan. On the other hand (you made me curious) it "only" weighs 596g. Photographers need exercise, too... .
