I had a blast decorating the Christmas Tree with Michele and Layla Sunday!!I also managed to grab a few snap shots with the Alpha 580 and 16-50mm f/2.8 Lens. I’m a big fan of exploiting a bokeh wherever I can and the lights make for an amazing backdrop when out of focus 🙂 I shot using raw image quality and had the a580 set to Auto ISO. The a580 chose all sorts of ISO’s ranging from ISO 400 all the way to ISO 1600. I was also using Multi-segment metering and Auto WB just to let you know.
Now that I pretty much finished up with the a77 review (except for a few mistakes I need to address), I’m focused on the a580 big time. One thing I notice right out of the gate is the incredible rich colors on the raw files. The excellent color bit-depth is a staple for the Sony cameras and the a580 is not different. The noise is also not to bad considering the terrible lighting and High ISO’s used.
Another note about the a580 worth mention is the AF system works well in low light. I had no problem finding the focus with all these shots and the camera never focused through anything like the a77 loved to do in low light. I’m going to do a test to see which af performs better, the SLR a580 or SLT a77. I’m not sure how I’m going to do it, but I still suspect that the translucent mirror on the a77 which only reflects %30 of the light hinders the AF system. I have no proof of this other than my own experience so stay tuned for more on this issue as I try some tests!
