Sony RX1 – New Full Frame Cyber-Shot Compact Camera!! DSC-RX1, Sample Photos

rx1feat

The Sony RX100 Full Frame Compact Cyber-Shot Camera is incredible powerful, innovative, and guess what?? I want a Sony DSC-RX1!!

The Sony RX1 is basically a Full Frame Sensor version of the RX100, except it has a fixed 35mm f/2.0 Zeiss lens. I know, it’s sounds insane, but it’s true!! It also has an ISO range of 100-25,600, HD video recording, a magnesium body, and it can take optical and electronic external viewfinders!! The Sony RX1 looks like it’s the most powerful, and compact Full Frame camera ever made to me :) I can’t wait to try it!!

Unlike Sony RX100, the Sony RX1 is clearly not for everybody do to the fixed (non-interchangeable lens) and a very hefty $2799 price tag!! For the range finder enthusiast that doesn’t want to drop 8 grand on a Leica M9, this may be a dream come true !!

Closing Remarks:

As I said in the beginning of this article, the Sony DSC-RX1 really does look like it’s the most powerful, and compact Full Frame camera ever made!! It will be very interesting to see if Sony comes out with a interchangeable lens version at some point.

The Sony RX1 is not exactly a pocket sized camera like the Sony RX100 as it’s much larger and more like a range finder style.  The lens cannot come off, so your going to need a small camera bag most likely.

I believe the the image quality will be ridiculously good considering how good the RX100 is with it’s much smaller 1″ sized sensor.  Plus the Carl Zeiss optics never disappoint!! I have yet to see any sample pics from the 24mp full frame sensor, but they should be out very shortly I would think.

That is about it for now guys, but I’m on the New Sony Alpha Forum >> daily posting and commenting on all sorts of stuff including Rumors and News!! Were up to 108 members already!! Be sure to check it out as it’s much easier for me to do quick posts of news by dropping links etc.. Here I try and write a nice article every time I post which is significantly more time consuming. The Forum is the perfect place to keep up to date on all sorts of stuff related to photography!!I also added a new gallery uploaded that should make sharing pics even easier ;)

See ya there, and if you have any issues registering, let me know please. Here’s a few Sony RX1 Sample Photos >>

This is a wet dream come true. I don’t think anyone saw this coming. Fixed lens is great, sensor is great, viewfinder option is great. NEX E-mount version is sure to follow but this one is for me :-D

    • Jay

I certainly did not see this coming especially with the RX100 just being announced pretty much. I also think an E-Mount version will be coming for sure!!

The fixed lens and the price are a big no no for me, so I would stay with my NEX-7 for now. I only wish Sony will update the firmware already and to be honest, if they won’t do that, I doubt if I will buy another Sony camera again.

With that said, the new RX1 does seem like a pretty insane camera :)

    • Jay

Yeah, I agree that another firmware is in order for the Nex-7!! More customization with the buttons would be nice and some Better HDR bracketing!!

      Best,
      Jay

First, it is necessary to say that THIS is not what we expected from Sony. Some might like a fixed lens, most of us don’t, despite Sony has chosen the best lens possible here and a correct wide angle. But, had it not been possible to include a Leica, Zeiss or Schneider Zoom in there, a 12 – 24 for example. This is a P&S tourist camera at a real high exorbitant price. Now, if it makes as good shots as the A99 or the Nikon D600, there is really nothing to be proud about. I am interested in this type of camera, but, first it needs a zoom-lens, then it needs to be full pocketable like the RX100 that has a zoom, a VF is not a must but welcome, and, it has to be at a price that th common mortal is able and the connaisseur is willed to pay for. At this state it is a camera for traveling Donald Trumps. But, maybe, I say, maybe, it will be a first step in direction of a NEX in FF, i ever there will be one.

    • Jay

      Hey Lou,

      Thanks for the comments!

The FF Nex is coming for sure!! The demand is there, but development takes time. The E-Mount can clear support the Full frame as we saw with the New Sony VG-900

I would like to lay with this camera, but like the Fuji X-Pro 1, it’s just too much money for what you get in my opinion. And the Fuji has nice interchangeable lenses as well!! I’ll bet it takes phenomenal photos though!!

If it had a zoom lens on it, it would be gigantic or much less quality I would think. An RX100 type lens in a full frame version would be absolutely incredible!! If Anybody can do it, it’s Sony and Zeiss ;)

      Jay

  4. I keep my Nex-7 because I love the quality it gives me, and it has a built-in EVF, plus the price of Nex-7 does not exceed my savings.
If I had money saved up, I’d buy the next model with built-in EVF.
